How Credits Work

Credits are the currency that powers premium features in TriviaNow. Think of them as tokens — instead of paying per action, you use credits from your balance whenever you host a live session, generate questions with AI, or use other premium features.

Two Ways to Get Credits

There are two ways to add credits to your account:

  1. Subscription credits — Included with your monthly plan and refreshed automatically each billing cycle.
  2. Purchased credit packs — One-time purchases you can make at any time, regardless of your subscription status.

[!TIP] Subscription credits refresh each billing cycle, so use them while you have them. Purchased credit packs don’t expire (or expire much later, per our Terms of Service), so they’re great for building a long-term reserve.

How Credits Are Spent

When you use a premium feature, the system automatically deducts credits from your balance. The system is smart about it — subscription credits are used first (since they expire at the end of your billing cycle), and your purchased credits are saved for later.

For a full breakdown of which features use credits and how much they cost, see What Uses Credits.

Check Your Balance

You can view your current credit balance at any time:

  • Credit balance: Dashboard > Billing > Credits tab
  • Usage history: Dashboard > Billing > Usage tab

Running Low on Credits

If you run out of credits mid-month, you don’t have to wait or change your subscription. Simply purchase a credit pack to top up your balance right away.

Go to Dashboard > Billing > Credits > Purchase to grab a credit pack and get back to hosting.

[!NOTE] For step-by-step instructions on buying credits, see Purchasing Credits.

Troubleshooting: “Insufficient Credits”

If you see the error “Insufficient credits” (reason code P0002), it means your balance is too low for the action you’re trying to perform.

Here’s how to fix it:

  1. Purchase a credit pack — Go to Dashboard > Billing > Credits > Purchase for an instant top-up.
  2. Upgrade your subscription — A higher-tier plan includes more monthly credits. Visit Dashboard > Billing > Subscription to compare plans.
  3. Wait for your next billing cycle — If you have an active subscription, your credits refresh automatically on your billing date.

[!WARNING] Credits are deducted when you initiate an action (for example, clicking “Go Live” or “Generate”). Make sure you have enough credits before starting.
