Team Scoring
TriviaNow gives you three different ways to calculate team scores, so you can pick the mode that fits your event best.
Scoring Modes
You can configure the team scoring mode in your session settings before launching a game.
| Mode | How It Works | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Sum | All team members’ scores are added together | Large teams, rewarding participation |
| Average | Team score = average of all members’ scores | Balanced competition with different team sizes |
| Highest | Team score = the highest individual score on the team | Small teams, celebrating star players |
Sum
Every point earned by every team member counts. The more players on your team who do well, the higher the team score. This mode rewards participation — everyone’s contribution matters.
Average
The team score is the average of all individual scores. This evens the playing field when teams have different numbers of players. A team of 3 strong players can compete fairly against a team of 10.
Highest
Only the top scorer on each team counts. This mode is great for smaller teams or when you want to spotlight your team’s MVP.
[!TIP] Running an event with uneven team sizes? Average mode keeps things fair. If all teams are the same size, Sum mode is the most exciting because every answer matters.
Team Rankings and Streaks
- Team rankings are tracked independently from individual leaderboards. A player can be first on the individual leaderboard while their team sits in third place (or vice versa).
- Team streaks work the same way — if a team consistently scores well across rounds, their streak builds up.
The Team Podium
At the end of the game, the Team Podium showcases the top 3 teams with their final scores (total, average, or highest — depending on the mode you chose).
Team Prizes
You can assign prizes specifically for the team podium, separate from individual prizes. Head over to Assigning Prizes to learn how to set up prizes for your winning teams.
[!NOTE] Team scores and individual scores are completely independent. A player’s individual ranking is based on their own performance, while the team ranking reflects the combined (or averaged, or highest) effort of the whole group.
