Scoring and Streaks
Understanding how scoring works in TriviaNow can give you a real edge. Whether you are a casual player or a competitive streak-chaser, here is everything you need to know about how points add up.
Base Score
Every question is worth a base number of points (the default is 1000). If you answer correctly, you earn the base score — simple as that.
For Text Answer and Nearest Number questions, your score is calculated as a percentage based on how accurate your answer is. The closer you are to the correct answer, the more of the base score you earn.
Speed Bonus
If the host has Speed Bonus enabled, the faster you answer, the more bonus points you earn on top of the base score.
- The speed bonus can be worth up to 50% of the base score.
- The more time you save on the countdown, the bigger the bonus.
- For example, if the base score is 1000 and you answer in about half the allotted time, you would earn roughly 250 bonus points on top of your base score.
[!TIP] In Speed Bonus mode, do not just guess randomly — a wrong answer earns you zero points AND breaks your streak! Sometimes it is better to take a moment, think it through, and answer correctly.
Streak Bonus
If the host has Streak Bonus enabled, answering multiple questions correctly in a row builds a streak — and streaks mean bonus points.
Here is how it works:
- 2 correct in a row — You start earning a small streak bonus.
- 5+ correct in a row — You hit the maximum streak bonus of 25% on top of your score.
- One wrong answer — Your streak resets to zero. Ouch.
The streak bonus stacks with every question, so a long streak can add up to a serious point advantage over time.
[!NOTE] Consistency pays off. Even if you are not the fastest player, maintaining a long streak can push you ahead of someone who answers quickly but misses a question here and there.
Power-Up Modifiers
Some Power-Ups affect your score directly. For example, a Points Multiplier can double (or more) your score for a single question. Power-up modifiers are applied after all other calculations (base score + speed bonus + streak bonus), so they can lead to some big numbers.
Scoring Modes
The host chooses one of two scoring modes when setting up the game:
Speed Bonus Mode
Base Score + Speed Bonus + Streak Bonus
This is the default and most exciting mode. Quick thinking is rewarded — the faster you answer correctly, the more you earn. Streaks amplify your score even further.
Fixed Mode
Base Score + Streak Bonus (no speed advantage)
Everyone who answers correctly gets the same base score, regardless of how fast they answered. This levels the playing field and puts the focus on knowledge over reflexes. Streak bonuses still apply if enabled.
Putting It All Together
Here is a quick example of how scoring works in Speed Bonus mode:
| Component | Points |
|---|---|
| Base Score | 1000 |
| Speed Bonus (answered quickly) | +350 |
| Streak Bonus (4 in a row) | +200 |
| Total | 1550 |
Now imagine you also had a 2x Points Multiplier power-up active — that total jumps to 3100 for a single question!
[!TIP] Want to maximize your score? Focus on accuracy first, speed second. A correct answer with a streak is almost always worth more than a fast guess that breaks your streak.
