Getting StartedHosting Your First Session

Hosting Your First Session

You’ve got a trivia ready — now it’s time to go live and play with others. Hosting a session takes just a few clicks.

Launch a Session

  1. Navigate to “Live Sessions” from the sidebar, then click Launch. You can also use the “Launch Session” quick action from the Dashboard.
  2. Select which trivia you want to use from the dropdown.
  3. Configure your session settings:
    • Max players — Set a limit on how many people can join.
    • PIN type — Choose how the join PIN is generated.
    • Power-ups — Enable or disable in-game power-ups for players.
    • Leaderboard visibility — Control whether players can see the leaderboard during the game.
  4. Click “Generate PIN & Go Live”.

Share With Players

Once your session is live, you’ll get two ways to invite players:

  • A 6-digit PIN — Players enter this code to join.
  • A QR code — Players can scan it with their phone camera for instant access.

Here’s what players need to do:

  1. Go to play.trivianow.net .
  2. Enter the 6-digit PIN.
  3. Pick a display name.
  4. They’re in!

[!TIP] Players do not need a TriviaNow account to join a session. Just share the PIN and they can jump right in from any device with a browser.

Host Controls

As the host, you’re in charge of the pace. During a live session, you can:

  • Start the game when everyone has joined.
  • Pause at any time if you need a break.
  • Skip a question if you want to move on.
  • Reveal answers to show the correct response and scores.

Play Mode

Before starting, choose how you want to participate:

  • Host & Play — You control the session and answer questions as a player. Great for smaller groups where you want to join the fun.
  • Host Only — You manage the session without playing. Ideal for larger events or classroom settings where you want to focus on keeping things running smoothly.

That’s it — you’re hosting! For advanced session options, player management, and more, check out the full Hosting Sessions guide.
