Playing the GameAnswering Questions

Answering Questions

Every TriviaNow game follows a rhythm. Once you know the flow, you will feel right at home — even on your first game. Here is what each phase looks like from the player’s perspective.

The Question Flow

1. Get Ready

A countdown appears on your screen. The game is about to start! Take a breath, get your thumbs ready, and prepare for the first question.

2. Question Intro

The question text appears on screen (typically for about 5 seconds). Read it carefully — this is your chance to start thinking before the answer options show up.

3. Answering

The answer options appear and a timer starts counting down. The time limit is set by the host (usually 20 seconds). This is where the action happens!

Depending on the question type, here is how you answer:

  • Single Choice — Tap the one answer you think is correct.
  • Multiple Choice — Tap all the answers you think are correct, then hit confirm.
  • True/False — Tap True or False. Quick and simple.
  • Text Answer — Type your answer in the text field. Spelling counts, so take care!
  • Nearest Number — Enter your best guess as a number. The closer you are, the more points you earn.

Answer buttons are color-coded (A, B, C, D, and so on) to make them easy to spot and tap quickly.

[!TIP] In Speed Bonus mode, every second counts. The faster you answer correctly, the more bonus points you earn. Check out Scoring and Streaks for the full breakdown.

4. Locked In

Once you submit your answer, you will see “Answer Locked In!” along with a progress indicator (for example, “3/8 players answered”). Now you wait for the other players to finish.

There is no going back — once it is locked, it is locked.

5. Reveal

The correct answer is shown! You will see right away whether you got it right or wrong, along with the points you earned for that question.

6. Leaderboard

Between questions, the host may show the current standings. See where you rank and who you need to catch. Not every game includes leaderboard breaks — it depends on the host’s settings.

7. Power-Up Selection

Every few questions (if the host enabled power-ups), you get a chance to pick a power-up. These can give you an edge on the next question — like eliminating wrong answers or multiplying your points. Head over to Power-Ups for the full list.

8. Podium

At the end of the game, the top 3 players are celebrated on the podium! If the host set up Prizes, winners might walk away with something extra.

Tips for Players

  • Speed matters — In Speed Bonus mode, answering faster earns more points. But do not just mash buttons — a wrong answer breaks your streak!
  • You cannot change your answer — Once you see “Answer Locked In!” that is final. Make it count.
  • Stay connected — If you get disconnected, TriviaNow will try to reconnect you automatically. Keep your browser tab open and you should be back in the game within seconds.
  • Have fun — It is trivia, not a final exam. Enjoy the ride!

[!NOTE] The host controls the pace of the game. Some hosts let the timer run out naturally, while others may advance questions manually. Either way, you will always have time to read and answer.
