Launching a Session

Ready to get a game going? Launching a session in TriviaNow takes just a few clicks. Here is how to go from zero to lobby in no time.

How to Launch

  1. From your Dashboard, head to Live Sessions > Launch. You can also use the Quick Actions menu on the dashboard for a shortcut.
  2. Select a trivia from the dropdown. This lists all the trivia sets you have created or saved.
  3. Configure your settings — adjust timers, scoring, player limits, power-ups, and more. See Session Settings for the full breakdown.
  4. Click “Generate PIN & Go Live”.

That is it — your session is now in lobby status. You will see a 6-digit PIN and a QR code that players can use to join.

[!NOTE] The session stays in lobby mode until you manually start it. Take your time getting everyone in — there is no rush.

Choose Your Role

When launching, you can pick how you want to participate:

  • Host & Play — You run the game and play along as a participant. Great for smaller groups where you want to join the fun.
  • Host Only — You control the flow but do not answer questions yourself. Ideal for larger events where you want to focus on running the show.

Surprise Session

Do not have a trivia set ready? No problem. The Surprise Session option lets AI generate questions on the fly. Just pick a topic and launch — the AI handles the rest. It is perfect for spontaneous game nights when you do not want to plan ahead.

[!NOTE] Surprise Sessions use credits from your account balance. Make sure you have enough credits before launching. Check your balance at Credits.

Troubleshooting

“Insufficient credits”

This means your account does not have enough credits to launch the session. This usually happens with Surprise Sessions or when your plan’s credits have been used up. Head to Credits to purchase more or upgrade your plan.

Can not find your trivia in the dropdown?

Make sure you have saved your trivia set. Draft trivia sets that have not been finalized will not appear in the launch dropdown.
