TroubleshootingConnection Issues

Connection Issues

Connection problems can be frustrating, especially in the middle of a game. The good news is that TriviaNow is built to handle temporary disconnections gracefully, and most connection issues resolve themselves quickly.

”Reconnecting…” Message

If you see a “Reconnecting…” message, TriviaNow is automatically trying to restore your connection to the game server. Here’s what’s happening behind the scenes:

  • The app retries with increasing intervals: 2 seconds, then 5 seconds, then 10 seconds
  • This process is fully automatic — you don’t need to do anything
  • Stay on the page and let it work

[!TIP] Don’t refresh or close the page while you see “Reconnecting…” — the automatic retry is usually faster than a manual refresh, and it preserves your game state.

If the reconnection hasn’t succeeded after about 30 seconds, check your internet connection:

  1. Open a new tab and try loading any website
  2. If that fails, your internet is the issue — reconnect to WiFi or check your mobile data
  3. Once your internet is back, the game should reconnect on its own

”Connection Lost” Screen

The “Connection Lost” screen appears when your device fully lost its connection to the game server. Don’t worry — your progress is safe.

What to try:

  1. Click the “Retry” button on the screen — this is the fastest fix
  2. Check your WiFi or mobile data — make sure you’re still connected to the internet
  3. Refresh the page as a last resort

What you should know:

  • When you reconnect, you’ll receive a full snapshot of the current game state — nothing is lost
  • All answers you submitted before the disconnection are saved on the server
  • You’ll be placed right back where the game currently is

[!NOTE] If the game ended while you were disconnected, you’ll see the final results when you reconnect. Your earlier answers still count toward your score.

Game Feels Laggy or Slow

If the game feels unresponsive or actions take a long time to register, the issue is usually related to your network connection rather than the game itself.

Try these steps in order:

  1. Check your internet speed — You need a stable connection, but TriviaNow doesn’t require a lot of bandwidth. Even a slow connection should work if it’s stable.
  2. Close other tabs and apps — Streaming video, large downloads, or video calls in the background can eat up your bandwidth
  3. Move closer to your WiFi router — Walls and distance weaken your signal
  4. Switch networks — Try switching from WiFi to mobile data (or the other way around) to see if one works better
  5. Ask others on your network — If multiple people are streaming or downloading, it can slow everyone down

[!TIP] If you’re playing at a live event or venue, the WiFi might be congested with many users. Switching to your mobile data connection often provides a more reliable experience.
